Is a MagSafe power bank worth it?

A MagSafe power bank is worth it for a buyer who wants cable-free top-ups during the day, and not for a buyer who wants the most charges per pound. On Compare Electronic's estimate, a 10,000 mAh pack gives an iPhone 18 Pro about 1.0 charge wirelessly and about 1.5 charges by cable, because wireless charging loses more energy as heat.

The Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K costs £55.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026), £40.00 more than a wired 10,000 mAh pack. The ranked list is in Best power bank UK 2026.

How fast is Qi2 and Qi2.2 wireless charging?

Qi2 charges at up to 15 W and Qi2.2 at up to 25 W. The Wireless Power Consortium launched Qi2 in late 2023 and says Qi2 25W, the consumer name for Qi2.2, delivers nearly 70% more power than the original Qi2. Both use a ring of magnets, based on Apple's MagSafe design, to hold the phone's coil in line with the pack's.

A 25 W pack only charges faster on a 25 W phone: Google rates the Pixel 11 at up to 25 W over Pixelsnap Qi2.2, and the Pixel 10 at up to 15 W, and a 15 W phone charges at 15 W on either pack. Heat from fast wireless charging is covered in Is wireless charging bad for your battery?

How many iPhone charges does a MagSafe power bank give?

A 5,000 mAh magnetic pack gives an iPhone 18 Pro about half a charge wirelessly, and a 10,000 mAh pack about one full charge. Over a cable, the same packs give about 0.7 and 1.5 charges. The mAh figure describes the cells, so Compare Electronic converts it to watt-hours and applies two published losses.

  • Cable: 65% of rated Wh reaches the phone, the figure used in How many mAh power bank do I need? Anker says 30% to 45% is lost in cells and conversion circuitry.
  • Wireless: OneZero metered 14.26 Wh to charge a Google Pixel 4 by USB-C cable and 21.01 Wh on an aligned wireless pad, 47% more. Wired usable energy is divided by 1.47.
  • iPhone 18 Pro: 4,056 mAh, about 15.7 Wh. Generic packs are rated at 3.6 V; Anker rates the MagGo Power Bank 10K at 38.5 Wh.

The wireless figure is the worst case for a well-aligned charger: OneZero's misaligned pad used 80% more energy than the cable, a loss Qi2 magnets are designed to prevent. A magnetic pack can also charge over its USB-C port, which recovers the cable figures.

Is a magnetic power bank worth the extra money?

A magnetic pack costs nearly five times as much per iPhone charge as a wired one when used wirelessly. Compare Electronic divides each Amazon UK price by the iPhone 18 Pro charges it delivers: £10.73 per charge for the INIU 10000mAh over a cable, against £51.75 for the Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K used wirelessly.

Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K£55.99Cable1.6£35.13
Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K£55.99Wireless (Qi2)1.1£51.75

The premium buys convenience: no cable in the pocket, a phone that stays usable while it charges, and a stand on the Anker MagGo. For a commuter who tops up once a day, that is worth £40.00 over the life of the pack; for a festival weekend, a wired 20,000 mAh pack does more. Which MagSafe power bank should you buy?

The Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K is the MagSafe power bank to buy for most iPhone owners, at £55.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026). Anker rates it at 10,000 mAh (38.5 Wh) with Qi2-certified 15 W magnetic charging, a 27 W USB-C port, a fold-out stand and a charge display.

The stand turns the pack into a desk or train-table dock, and the display shows the remaining charge. The compromises are weight, at 250 g, and the 15 W ceiling; buyers with an iPhone 18 Pro or a Pixel 11 get 25 W from the UGREEN MagFlow for £4.00 more.

Frequently asked questions

Is a MagSafe power bank better than a normal power bank?

A MagSafe power bank is more convenient, not more efficient. It snaps on and charges without a cable, but wireless charging loses more energy: in OneZero's measurement, an aligned wireless charger used 47% more energy than a cable for the same charge. A wired INIU 10000mAh costs £15.99 on Amazon UK, against £55.99 for the Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K.

How many times can a 10,000 mAh MagSafe power bank charge an iPhone?

About once wirelessly and about 1.5 times by cable, on Compare Electronic's estimate for an iPhone 18 Pro with a 15.7 Wh battery. The Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K stores 38.5 Wh; about 25.0 Wh reaches the phone by cable and about 17.0 Wh wirelessly, or 1.1 charges. Plugging a cable into the pack gives more charges.

What is the difference between Qi2 and Qi2.2?

Qi2 charges magnetically at up to 15 W, and Qi2.2, which the Wireless Power Consortium markets as Qi2 25W, raises that to 25 W, nearly 70% more power. Both use magnets for alignment. The UGREEN MagFlow 10000mAh Slim is a Qi2.2 pack at £59.99; the Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K is a Qi2 15 W pack at £55.99.

Does a MagSafe power bank work with Android phones?

Yes, with a Qi2 phone or a magnetic case. Google's Pixel 10 has Pixelsnap Qi2 charging at up to 15 W, and the Pixel 11 has Qi2.2 at up to 25 W, so magnetic packs attach without a case. Phones without built-in magnets need a magnetic case or ring to hold the pack in place.

Is the Apple MagSafe Battery worth it?

Only for an iPhone Air owner. Apple says the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery was made exclusively for iPhone Air, charges at up to 12 W wirelessly and adds up to 65 per cent extra charge. It costs £99.00 on Amazon UK in October 2026, against £55.99 for the Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K, which works with any MagSafe iPhone.

Is wireless charging from a power bank bad for an iPhone battery?

Not by itself, but it runs warmer than a cable, and heat is the main cause of lithium-ion battery ageing. Qi2 and Qi2.2 magnets keep the coils aligned, which limits the extra heat. Anker says its Nano Power Bank (5K, MagGo, Slim) stays below 40°C, and a cable remains the cooler and more efficient choice for a full charge.
