The best sleeved PSU cables for most UK builds are the Corsair Elite Premium Individually Sleeved Type 5 Pro Kit at £59.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026), for owners of a Corsair Type 5 power supply. Owners of any other PSU should buy the LINKUP AVA 30cm extension kit at £33.96, which extends the stock 24-pin, two EPS and two PCIe 8-pin cables in 18 AWG wire.

One rule sits behind every pick: replacement cables must match the exact power supply, because the connectors at the PSU end differ between brands and even between Corsair's own Type 4 and Type 5 units. Extensions fit any ATX power supply but add a second connector to every run.

Should you buy PSU cable extensions or full replacement cables?

Buy full replacement cables when a kit exists for the exact power supply, and extensions when it does not. Replacement cables run from the PSU to the component with one connector at each end. Extensions plug onto the stock cables, so each run gains a second pair of connectors and 300 mm of extra length that has to hide behind the motherboard tray. Compare Electronic's decision table:

The Corsair Elite Premium Type 5 Pro Kit costs £59.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026) in black. Corsair guarantees it for every Corsair Type 5 power supply, which Corsair's compatibility chart names as the RMx Shift, HXi Shift, SF-L and second-generation SF. The RMx (2024) and RMe (2025) take Type 4 cables instead. The kit replaces every cable a typical gaming PC uses except the graphics card's 12V-2x6 lead.

The Elite line's change over Corsair's older Premium cables is the low-profile comb, which clamps around each strand and can be moved by hand, per Corsair. At £7.50 per cable it is the cheapest direct-fit sleeved set here. Builders with an RTX 50-series card need the £24.24 black Elite 12V-2x6 cable on top, which makes the older Premium Pro Kit the better buy for them.

The Corsair Premium Individually Sleeved Type 5 Pro Kit costs £79.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026), £20.00 more than the Elite kit, and it is the only kit here with both a 12V-2x6 GPU cable and four PCIe 8-pin cables in the box. Corsair rates the 650 mm 12V-2x6 cable at 600 W.

For an RTX 50-series build on a Corsair Type 5 PSU, this is the cheaper complete black set: the Elite Pro Kit plus the black Elite 12V-2x6 cable costs £84.23, £4.24 more. White builds reverse that, because the white Elite 12V-2x6 cable costs £14.99 and the white Elite Pro Kit £59.99, a £74.98 total. This kit uses Corsair's older interlocking combs rather than the Elite clamp-on design.

The Corsair Elite Premium Type 4 24-pin cable costs £19.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026) in white. The 24-pin is the widest and most visible cable through a side window, so replacing it alone changes the look of a build for about a third of the price of the full Corsair Elite Premium Type 4 Pro Kit, which costs £61.19 in black.

It suits owners of a Corsair Type 4 power supply who want to start with one cable. Corsair's Type 4 list covers the RM, RMe, RMx and HXi from 2021, including the RMx (2024) and RMe (2025), plus the HX, AXi and first-generation SF. The stock EPS and GPU cables stay unsleeved until the rest of the set follows.

6. CableMod C-Series PRO ModMesh 12VHPWR kit - best for Corsair Type 4 with a 12VHPWR card

CableMod C-Series PRO ModMesh 12VHPWR Cable Kit for Corsair RM, RMi, RMx (Type 4)

The CableMod C-Series PRO ModMesh 12VHPWR Cable Kit for Corsair RM, RMi and RMx costs £65.21 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026). CableMod lists a 60 cm 24-pin, two 75 cm EPS cables and a 16-pin 12VHPWR GPU cable rated at 600 W, plus SATA and Molex leads, all in 16 AWG wire with pre-installed closed combs. It fits Corsair's Type 4 RM (Black Label), RMi and RMx units only.

CableMod vs Corsair comes down to the power supply. Corsair's Elite kits cover Type 5 units for less money; the CableMod kit is the 16 AWG option for Type 4 RM-series owners with an RTX 40 or 50 card. CableMod's product page lists a one-year warranty against two years for Corsair cables, and asks for 4 to 4.5 cm between the graphics card and the side panel for the 16-pin plug.

7. Lian Li Strimer Wireless 24-pin - best RGB cable

Lian Li Strimer Wireless 24-pin RGB Extension Cable

The Lian Li Strimer Wireless 24-pin costs £63.98 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026). Lian Li fits 132 addressable LEDs to a 260 mm 24-pin extension, powers them from the cable itself rather than a motherboard header, and includes a 2.4 GHz L-Wireless controller run from L-Connect 3. Lian Li's GPU versions carry 116 LEDs over 340 mm, with the controller sold separately. The Strimer is an extension, so the stock 24-pin stays in place behind it, and Lian Li's warranty is one year.

How much does it cost to sleeve a typical gaming PC?

Between £33.96 and £84.23 for the 24-pin, two EPS and GPU cables of a typical gaming PC, depending on the power supply and the graphics card's connector. Compare Electronic priced each option on Amazon UK for that set:

Cost to sleeve 24-pin + 2 x EPS + GPU power (Amazon UK prices, 5 October 2026). Price per cable divides the box price by the cables in the box.

Extension kits are the cheapest route at £6.50 to £6.79 per cable, but neither covers a 12V-2x6 card. For a Corsair Type 5 PSU and a 2 x 8-pin card, a direct-fit Elite kit costs £26.03 more than the LINKUP extensions (£59.99 against £33.96) and removes one connector from every run. The Corsair Elite Premium Type 5 12V-2x6 cable in black is the £24.24 add-on in the Elite row.

Are Corsair Type 4 and Type 5 cables compatible?

No: Corsair Type 5 cables do not fit Type 4 power supplies, and Type 4 cables do not fit Type 5 units. Corsair says Type 5 uses "a new micro fit connector which is physically smaller than Type 4" with no loss of power, and that the difference "only affects the end that goes into the PSU". Corsair's compatibility list splits the range:

  • Type 5: RMx Shift (both generations), HXi Shift, SF-L and second-generation SF.
  • Type 4: RM, RMe and RMx from 2021, including the RMx (2024) and RMe (2025), HX, HXi from 2021, AXi and first-generation SF. Semi-modular CX-M units take Type 4 EPS, PCIe and SATA cables.
  • Warning:Corsair states that "using incorrect PSU cables may damage hardware".

Corsair stamps Type 4 or Type 5 on the PSU end of its 2 x 8-pin to 12V-2x6 cables, so a spare cable can be checked before it goes in.

Can you use modular cables from another power supply?

No: modular cables belong only in the power supply they were made for, or one its maker lists as compatible. The connectors at the motherboard and graphics card follow the ATX standard, but the PSU end does not, and two sockets that look the same can carry different voltages on the same pin. Corsair recommends Corsair cables in Corsair PSUs, and CableMod sells its kits per PSU family, such as the C-Series for Corsair RM, RMi and RMx.

Extensions sidestep the problem because both of their ends use standard ATX connectors. Owners of an NZXT power supply such as the C850 Gold Core, covered in the best NZXT products UK 2026 guide, should use NZXT cables or extensions; Corsair owners will find the rest of the range in the best Corsair products UK 2026 guide.

How should a 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR GPU cable be fitted?

Push the plug in until it sits flush with no gap, and keep the first 35 mm of cable straight: that is CableMod's guidance, which also says to recheck the plug after cable management. Corsair says 12V-2x6 shortens the sensing pins by 1.5 mm and lengthens the conductor terminals by 0.25 mm compared with 12VHPWR, a change it describes as more reliability, and that existing 12VHPWR cables work in 12V-2x6 sockets.

  • Rating: Corsair and CableMod rate their 12V-2x6 and 12VHPWR cables at 600 W.
  • Clearance: CableMod asks for 4 to 4.5 cm between the GPU and the side panel.
  • No stacking: an extension on a GPU adapter adds joints to a 600 W connector; a direct cable from the PSU has one at each end.

Cards that use 12V-2x6 are ranked in the best graphics card UK 2026 guide.

Is 16 AWG better than 18 AWG for PSU cables?

16 AWG is thicker copper with lower resistance, and 18 AWG is the gauge extension kits use for every connector. By the American Wire Gauge standard, 16 AWG wire measures about 1.29 mm across with a 1.31 mm² cross-section; 18 AWG measures about 1.02 mm with 0.82 mm². CableMod builds its PRO ModMesh kits in 16 AWG and says the thicker wire gives a fuller look with smaller gaps between strands. LINKUP and EZDIY-FAB specify 18 AWG, and Corsair does not list a gauge on its Elite Premium product pages.

Are sleeved PSU cable extensions safe?

Yes for 24-pin, EPS and PCIe 8-pin connectors, provided the wire is at least 18 AWG and every plug latches fully. The extra connector is the weak point rather than the extension, because each run now has two joints that must be seated. Three checks:

  • Gauge: LINKUP lists 18 AWG UL 1015 tinned copper; skip listings that give no gauge.
  • Latches:each extension clicks into the stock cable's latch, and a plug that sits proud is not seated.
  • 12V-2x6: neither extension kit here includes a 12V-2x6 extension, and a direct cable avoids an extra joint.

Builders reusing an older power supply should read how to upgrade an old gaming PC first.

How do cable combs and the case keep a build tidy?

Combs and routing space do more for the look than the sleeve itself. Corsair includes 3 x 24-wire and 11 x 8-wire combs in the Elite Pro Kits, CableMod pre-installs closed combs and adds hybrid combs for the 4+4-pin EPS, and LINKUP and EZDIY-FAB include combs with their extension kits. Combs belong on straight runs, away from the 35 mm CableMod asks builders to keep straight at a 12VHPWR plug.

A dual-chamber case such as the NZXT H9 Flow hides the PSU and spare cable behind a divider. Case picks by size are in the best mid-tower PC case UK 2026 and best mini-ITX case UK 2026 guides, and PC case sizes explained sets out what fits where. Cables on the desk outside the case are a separate job, covered in how to hide desk cables.

Verdict

The Corsair Elite Premium Type 5 Pro Kit at £59.99 is the best sleeved PSU cable set for Corsair Type 5 owners, and the Corsair Premium Type 5 Pro Kit at £79.99 is the complete black set for an RTX 50 build. Type 4 owners can start with the Corsair Elite Premium Type 4 24-pin at £19.99, and every other PSU suits the LINKUP AVA 30cm extension kit at £33.96. Never move modular cables between power supplies. Buyers still deciding whether to build at all should read build vs buy a gaming PC.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best sleeved PSU cables in the UK?

The Corsair Elite Premium Individually Sleeved Type 5 Pro Kit is the best sleeved PSU cable set for Corsair Type 5 power supplies, at £59.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026). It replaces the 24-pin, two EPS, three PCIe 8-pin, SATA and PATA cables. For any other power supply, the LINKUP AVA 30cm extension kit with two EPS extensions costs £33.96.

Are sleeved PSU cable extensions safe?

Yes, when the extension uses 18 AWG wire or thicker and every connector is pushed fully home. LINKUP and EZDIY-FAB both specify 18 AWG wire for their 30cm extension kits. An extension adds a second connector to each run, so a half-seated plug is the real risk. For a 12V-2x6 graphics card, a direct replacement cable from the PSU avoids the extra joint.

Should I buy PSU cable extensions or replacement cables?

Buy replacement cables when a kit exists for the exact power supply, and extensions when it does not. Replacement cables plug straight into the PSU, so each run has one connector at each end and no extra bulk. Extensions fit any ATX power supply and move to the next PSU, but add a 300 mm joint that has to hide behind the motherboard tray.

Are Corsair Type 4 and Type 5 cables interchangeable?

No. Corsair says Type 5 cables use a smaller micro-fit connector at the PSU end and are not compatible with Type 3 or Type 4 power supplies, and Type 4 cables do not fit Type 5 units. Corsair's chart lists the RMx Shift, HXi Shift, SF-L and second-generation SF as Type 5; the RMx (2024) and RMe (2025) take Type 4. The ends that plug into the motherboard and graphics card are identical.

Can you use modular PSU cables from a different brand?

No. The connectors at the power supply end are not standardised, so a cable from one brand can put the wrong voltage on a pin when plugged into another, which can destroy drives or a motherboard. Corsair warns that using incorrect PSU cables may damage hardware. Buy cables made for the exact PSU model, or fit extensions to the stock cables instead.

CableMod vs Corsair cables: which should I buy?

Corsair for Corsair Type 5 power supplies, CableMod for Corsair Type 4 RM, RMi and RMx units with a 12VHPWR graphics card. The Corsair Elite Premium Type 5 Pro Kit costs £59.99 on Amazon UK in October 2026. The CableMod C-Series PRO ModMesh 12VHPWR kit costs £65.21, uses 16 AWG wire and includes a 600 W GPU cable, but CableMod lists a one-year warranty against Corsair's two years.

Do sleeved PSU cables need cable combs?

Cable combs keep individually sleeved wires straight and evenly spaced, which is most of the visual gain. Corsair includes three 24-wire and eleven 8-wire low-profile combs in the Corsair Elite Premium Type 5 Pro Kit, and LINKUP and EZDIY-FAB include combs with their 30cm extension kits. Combs belong on straight runs, never on a bend close to a connector.

What wire gauge should PSU cables be?

16 AWG or 18 AWG. A lower AWG number means thicker copper: 16 AWG wire has a cross-section of about 1.31 mm², against about 0.82 mm² for 18 AWG. CableMod builds its PRO ModMesh kits from 16 AWG wire. LINKUP and EZDIY-FAB use 18 AWG for every connector in their extension kits. Corsair does not list a gauge on its Elite Premium product pages.
