Amazon Prime is worth it in the UK for households that place about 20 or more One-Day orders a year or would otherwise pay for Prime Video: 20 deliveries at Amazon's £4.99 non-Prime One-Day rate cost £99.80, more than the £95 annual fee, and the Prime Video-only plan alone costs £95.88 a year. Prime costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year after a 30-day free trial, according to Amazon's UK Prime page on 29 September 2026, and it is poor value for occasional shoppers who can wait a few days and collect from a free Amazon pick-up point.

The membership bundles fast delivery, Prime Video, Amazon Music Prime, Prime Reading, Amazon Photos, Amazon Luna and a year of Deliveroo Plus Silver. Priced at named UK alternatives, the four perks with a like-for-like equivalent come to £214.84 a year, 2.26 times the annual fee. Prices come from each provider's UK pages on 29 September 2026 unless another source is named.

How much is Amazon Prime in the UK in 2026?

Amazon Prime costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year in the UK, according to Amazon's Prime membership fee page on 29 September 2026, so the annual plan saves £12.88 a year (11.9%) and works out at £7.92 a month. The price has not changed since 15 September 2022, when Amazon raised it from £7.99 a month and £79 a year, as Which? reported at the time.

How does the Amazon Prime free trial work, and does it cover Prime Big Deal Days?

Amazon's UK free trial lasts 30 days for new members and turns into a paid membership at £8.99 a month, or £95 a year on the annual option, unless it is cancelled before it ends. A trial started on 29 September 2026 runs until late October, so it spans Prime Big Deal Days, which Amazon runs from 00:01 BST on Tuesday 6 October to 23:59 BST on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

  • Same benefits:Amazon's free-trial help page says trial members get the same delivery, shopping, Prime Video and gaming benefits as paid members.
  • Payment card: Amazon asks for a valid payment card and excludes prepaid cards.
  • No sharing: Amazon Family sharing excludes members on a free trial.
  • Android sign-ups: a trial started in the Android shopping app is cancelled through Google Play subscriptions.

  • Business Prime Duo for sole traders, and Alexa+ once its Early Access ends.

Prime Try Before You Buy does not appear on Amazon's UK Prime pages in September 2026.

Does Prime Video have adverts, and how much is ad-free?

Yes: Prime Video in the UK includes limited adverts, and removing them costs £2.99 a month on top of Prime, the UK price reported by GB News and Cord Busters in March 2026. That takes annual Prime to £130.88 a year and a year of monthly Prime to £143.76.

  • Advert load: Adweek reported in June 2025 that Amazon told an ad buyer Prime Video carried four to six minutes of adverts an hour, up from two to three and a half at launch; no UK-only figure was given.
  • What ad-free covers: Amazon says the monthly-only subscription removes adverts from every profile on the account, but not from live TV and sport, and the second adult in an Amazon Family does not share it.
  • US changes: Prime Video Ultra replaced ad-free in the US on 10 April 2026 at $4.99 a month; no UK launch had been announced at the time of writing.
  • TV Licence: TV Licensing requires a licence to watch live TV on any streaming service, which covers live sport on Prime Video; on-demand viewing needs none. The colour licence costs £180 a year from 1 April 2026.

Amazon lists live Champions League football on Prime Video UK in September 2026. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd gen), £46.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (September 2026), plays Prime Video in Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos over Wi-Fi 6E; the best streaming stick UK 2026 guide compares it with the Google TV Streamer, Apple TV 4K and Roku Streaming Stick Plus.

Is Amazon Music Prime enough, or is Music Unlimited worth adding?

Amazon Music Prime plays 100 million songs ad-free on shuffle with top podcasts, which suits background listening; choosing tracks, listening offline and lossless audio need Amazon Music Unlimited, a paid upgrade at £11.99 a month or £119 a year for Prime members.

  • Sharing: Amazon Music Prime can be shared with one other adult in the Amazon Family.
  • The upgrade: Music Unlimited adds on-demand play, downloads, HD and Ultra HD up to 24-bit/192 kHz and Dolby Atmos, for £1 a month less than the £12.99 full price.
  • Against Spotify: Prime at £95 plus Music Unlimited at £119 costs £214.00 a year, £58.12 more than Spotify Premium Individual alone at £155.88.

The full comparison, with Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal and Deezer, is in Amazon Music Unlimited vs Spotify UK. The Amazon Echo Dot (5th gen), £29.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (September 2026), plays Amazon Music Prime by voice.

How much does Amazon delivery cost without Prime?

Without Prime, Amazon UK charges £4.99 for One-Day Delivery (£3.99 for books, music, DVDs, video games and software), £5.99 for Same-Day or Overnight Delivery and £2.99 for Premium Delivery to a locker or pick-up point, according to Amazon's UK delivery rates page on 29 September 2026.

  • Free standard delivery: orders with £10 or more of eligible books arrive free in three to five days; for other orders dispatched by Amazon, the fee appears at checkout.
  • Free pick-up: standard delivery to an Amazon pick-up location is free in every category.
  • First order:Amazon listings show free delivery on a shopper's first eligible order.
  • Threshold history: Amazon raised the non-Prime free-delivery threshold from £25 to £35 in June 2024 (Yorkshire Evening Post); its September 2026 help pages list no general threshold for UK home delivery.

How many Amazon orders make Prime worth it?

Twenty One-Day orders a year cover the £95 annual fee at Amazon's £4.99 non-Prime rate, and 22 cover the £107.88 cost of paying monthly for a year; a household that would otherwise pay £7.99 a month for Prime Video on its own covers the annual fee with no orders at all.

What would Prime's perks cost separately in the UK?

Bought separately at named UK alternatives, the four Prime perks with a like-for-like equivalent (monthly One-Day delivery, Prime Video, Amazon Photos and Deliveroo Plus Silver) cost £214.84 a year, 2.26 times the £95 annual fee.

  • Deliveroo: Plus Silver is sold only through partners; the cheapest standalone plan, Plus Gold, costs £4.99 a month.
  • Left out: YouTube Music Premium and Kindle Unlimited do more than the Prime perks they stand in for.

The total holds only for a household that uses all four perks; one perk alone is worth £19.08 to £95.88 a year.

Is Amazon Prime cheaper monthly or annually?

Annual Prime is cheaper for anyone who keeps Prime for 11 months or more of the year: £95 against £98.89 for 11 monthly payments and £107.88 for 12. Monthly wins for shoppers who join only around busy periods, because ten months cost £89.90 and two months cost £17.98.

  • Pausing: a paid monthly membership can be paused for one month and an annual one for up to a year; trials, discounted and student plans cannot be paused.

Is there a cheaper Prime for students and 18 to 24 year-olds?

Yes: Prime for Students and 18-24 year-olds costs £4.49 a month or £47.49 a year, half the standard price, after a six-month free trial, according to Amazon's UK help pages on 29 September 2026.

  • Eligibility: higher education students in the UK or Ireland keep the rate for up to four years; anyone aged 18 to 24 keeps it until turning 25, with a driving licence or passport as proof. The maximum is six years.
  • Trial limits:no Amazon Family sharing, a Twitch channel subscription for one month only, and no Kindle Owners' Lending Library.
  • Afterwards: the plan renews as standard Prime at £8.99 a month or £95 a year, and cancelling during the six-month trial rules out a second one.
  • Extras: discounts on textbooks, selected Chromebooks and National Express coach tickets.

Can Amazon Prime be shared with family?

Yes: through Amazon Family, a Prime member shares delivery, Prime-exclusive deals, Prime Video with adverts, Prime Reading and partner perks such as Deliveroo with one other adult at the same address and up to four child profiles, at no extra cost. Two adults on one £95 membership pay £47.50 each a year.

  • Amazon Music Prime is shared with the other adult; ad-free Prime Video is not.
  • An adult who leaves an Amazon Family must wait 12 months before joining a different one.
  • Free-trial and student members cannot share.
  • Amazon ended the older Prime Invitee programme on 30 June 2025.

How do you cancel Amazon Prime, and can you get a refund?

Prime can be cancelled at any time from the Your Amazon Prime Membership page, and paid members who have not used any Prime benefit get a full refund of the current period, according to Amazon's UK help pages on 29 September 2026.

  1. Open Your Amazon Prime Membership in the Amazon account.
  2. Select Manage, then Update, Cancel and More.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to end the membership or the free trial.
  • Refunds: full if no benefit has been used, possibly partial if only delivery benefits have been used, and none once Prime Video, Amazon Music Prime or Prime Gaming has been used.
  • Free trial: cancelling before it ends means no charge.
  • Android app sign-ups: cancelled through Google Play subscriptions.

Who should skip Amazon Prime?

Prime is poor value for households that place fewer than about 20 urgent orders a year and rarely watch Prime Video, because free pick-up delivery and £10 book orders already arrive free without a membership.

  • The occasional shopper: one order a month, collected free from a pick-up point, costs £0 in delivery, so £95 buys little.
  • The full streaming household: a home paying for Netflix and Disney+ that never opens Prime Video loses the biggest non-delivery perk.
  • The advert-averse viewer: ad-free Prime Video takes the cost to £130.88 a year.
  • The second adult in a Prime home: joining the existing Amazon Family costs nothing.
  • Students and 18 to 24 year-olds: the £4.49 plan gives the core benefits at half price.
  • The event-only shopper: one month at £8.99 around Prime Day or Prime Big Deal Days costs £86.01 less than a year.
  • Rural addresses: Amazon says delivery speeds vary by item and address, and Same-Day reaches more than 80 towns and cities.

Verdict: is Amazon Prime worth it in the UK?

Amazon Prime is worth £95 a year for UK households that place 20 or more One-Day orders a year, would otherwise pay £7.99 a month for Prime Video or Netflix with adverts, or combine Amazon Photos, Deliveroo and a few next-day orders; the like-for-like perks come to £214.84 a year. The annual plan beats monthly for anyone keeping Prime 11 months or more, students and 18 to 24 year-olds should take the £4.49 plan, and occasional shoppers who can wait for free pick-up delivery should skip it. Without adverts, the real price is £130.88 a year.

Frequently asked questions

Is Amazon Prime worth it in the UK?

Amazon Prime is worth it for UK households that place about 20 or more One-Day orders a year, because 20 non-Prime One-Day deliveries at £4.99 cost £99.80, more than the £95 annual fee. It also pays for itself for anyone who would otherwise buy the £7.99 a month Prime Video-only plan. Occasional shoppers who can use free pick-up delivery should skip it.

How much is Amazon Prime in the UK in 2026?

Amazon Prime costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year in the UK, according to Amazon's Prime membership fee page in September 2026, unchanged since 15 September 2022. Paying annually saves £12.88 a year. Prime for Students and 18-24 year-olds costs £4.49 a month or £47.49 a year, the Prime Video-only plan costs £7.99 a month and ad-free Prime Video adds £2.99 a month.

How long is the Amazon Prime free trial in the UK?

The Amazon Prime free trial lasts 30 days for eligible new UK members, and students and 18 to 24 year-olds get six months. Amazon says trial members get the same delivery, shopping and Prime Video benefits as paid members. The trial renews automatically at £8.99 a month or £95 a year unless cancelled before it ends. A trial started in late September 2026 covers Prime Big Deal Days on 6 and 7 October.

Is Amazon Prime monthly or annual better value?

Annual Amazon Prime at £95 is better value for anyone keeping Prime for 11 months or more a year, because 11 monthly payments at £8.99 cost £98.89 and 12 cost £107.88. Monthly Prime suits shoppers who join only for busy periods such as Prime Day or Prime Big Deal Days: two months cost £17.98. Amazon lets members switch between monthly and annual plans at any time.

How much is Prime Student in the UK?

Prime for Students and 18-24 year-olds costs £4.49 a month or £47.49 a year in the UK, half the standard price, after a six-month free trial. Students at UK or Irish higher education institutions keep the rate for up to four years; 18 to 24 year-olds keep it until they turn 25, with a six-year maximum. The membership then renews as standard Prime.

How do you cancel Amazon Prime and get a refund?

Amazon Prime is cancelled from the Your Amazon Prime Membership page: select Manage, then Update, Cancel and More. Paid members who have not used any Prime benefit get a full refund of the current period, members who have used only delivery benefits may get a partial refund, and anyone who has used Prime Video, Amazon Music Prime or Prime Gaming gets none. Android app sign-ups are managed through Google Play.

Can Amazon Prime be shared with family members?

Yes. Amazon Family lets a Prime member share fast free delivery, Prime-exclusive deals, Prime Video with adverts, Prime Reading and partner perks such as Deliveroo with one other adult at the same address and up to four child profiles. Amazon Music Prime can be shared with that adult too. Free-trial and student members cannot share, and ad-free Prime Video does not pass to the second adult's account.

Does Amazon Prime include Prime Video without adverts?

No. Prime Video included with Amazon Prime in the UK carries limited adverts, and the ad-free option costs £2.99 a month extra, the UK price reported by GB News and Cord Busters in March 2026. That takes annual Prime to £130.88 a year. Live TV and sport keep their adverts even with ad-free, and watching sport live on Prime Video requires a TV Licence.
