Is a rapid trigger keyboard worth it?
Yes for tactical shooters such as Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant, and no for MOBA, MMO and strategy players. Rapid trigger releases a key after as little as 0.1 mm of lift instead of about 2 mm on a standard switch, and on Amazon UK in October 2026 it costs £16.40 to £84.37 more than a standard keyboard from the same brand.
The Corsair K70 PRO TKL at £126.89 is the pick, £36.90 more than the standard Corsair K70 CORE TKL, and Valve's CS2 rules target opposing-key automation, not rapid trigger. The full rankings are in Best gaming keyboard UK 2026 and Best budget gaming keyboard UK 2026.
| Game type | Examples | Benefit | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tactical FPS | Counter-Strike 2, Valorant | High: faster stops before a shot | Buy |
| Movement FPS and battle royale | Apex Legends, Fortnite, Overwatch 2 | Medium: sharper strafes | Nice to have |
| Rhythm games | osu!mania | High: faster repeated taps on one key | Buy |
| MOBA, MMO and strategy | League of Legends, World of Warcraft | Low: single presses on ability keys | Skip |
| Typing and office work | Documents, email | None: light settings add typos | Skip |
The benefit follows one question: does the game reward letting go of a key quickly? In Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant, shots fired on the move go wide, so players tap the opposite movement key to stop before shooting, and a faster release shortens that stop. MOBA and MMO players press each ability once, so a wireless board or macro keys serve them better than magnetic switches.
How much faster does rapid trigger reset a key?
Rapid trigger cuts the lift needed to release a key from about 2.0 mm to as little as 0.1 mm, 20 times less. A standard switch such as the Cherry MX Red actuates at a fixed 2.0 mm of its 4.0 mm travel and releases only when it rises back past that point, so a fully pressed movement key travels about 2.0 mm up before the game sees it let go.
A Hall effect switch reads a magnet's position along the whole stroke, so rapid trigger releases the key once it rises by the set distance and presses it again the moment it moves down. At AULA's 0.02 mm figure, the release comes after one hundredth of a standard switch's travel. The same sensing lets players set a deep actuation point for typing and a shallow one for movement keys, and Logitech allows two actuation stages on every key of the G PRO X TKL RAPID. Razer quotes the same 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm range for the analogue optical switches in the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Tenkeyless.
| Keyboard | Switch | Actuation range | Rapid trigger reset | Layout | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Corsair K70 PRO TKL | MGX Hyperdrive Hall effect | 0.1 to 4.0 mm, 0.1 mm steps | Adjustable, no minimum published | TKL, UK ISO | £126.89 |
| ASUS ROG Falchion Ace HFX | ROG HFX magnetic | 0.1 to 4.0 mm | Adjustable, no figure published | 65% | £188.10 |
| SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 | OmniPoint 3.0 Hall effect | 0.1 to 4.0 mm | Adjustable, no figure published | TKL | £209.00 |
| Logitech G PRO X TKL RAPID | Magnetic analogue | Per key, two stages | Adjustable, no figure published | TKL, UK | £99.99 |
| AULA WIN60 HE | Hall effect | Per key | 0.02 mm | 60%, US ANSI | £39.99 |
| Corsair K70 CORE TKL (standard) | MLX Red v2 mechanical | Fixed | No rapid trigger | TKL, UK ISO | £89.99 |
Most makers publish the actuation range but not the smallest reset step, and the most sensitive settings carry a cost. Corsair recommends 0.3 mm to 3.6 mm on the K70 PRO TKL and warns that settings outside that range "may result in higher sensitivity and affect consistency". RTINGS found possible key chatter on the Logitech G PRO X TKL RAPID at its lowest settings. How magnetic switches work is covered in Mechanical keyboard switches explained.
How much more does a rapid trigger keyboard cost?
A rapid trigger keyboard costs £16.40 to £84.37 more than a standard keyboard from the same brand, an average of £39.42 (40.4%) across four matched pairs on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026).
| Brand | Rapid trigger model | Price | Standard model | Price | Extra | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Corsair | K70 PRO TKL (UK ISO) | £126.89 | K70 CORE TKL, MLX Red v2 (UK ISO) | £89.99 | £36.90 | 41.0% |
| Logitech | G PRO X TKL RAPID (UK) | £99.99 | G PRO Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (wired TKL) | £79.99 | £20.00 | 25.0% |
| Keychron | K2 HE (UK) | £111.99 | K2 Version 3, Super Red (UK ISO) | £95.59 | £16.40 | 17.2% |
| SteelSeries | Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 | £209.00 | Apex 7 TKL, Red switches (US layout) | £124.63 | £84.37 | 67.7% |
| Average of four pairs | £136.97 | £97.55 | £39.42 | 40.4% |
Corsair's pair is the cleanest match: both are wired tenkeyless boards in a UK ISO layout, and the extra £36.90 buys Hall effect switches, rapid trigger and 8,000 Hz polling in place of 1,000 Hz. Spread over three years, that is £12.30 a year. Logitech charges the smallest premium of the big brands, £20.00, and SteelSeries the largest, £84.37, where both TKL boards carry an OLED screen and the gap is mostly the OmniPoint 3.0 switches. Rapid trigger no longer needs a big budget either: the AULA WIN60 HE costs £39.99, less than every standard keyboard in the table.
Is rapid trigger allowed in CS2?
Yes. Valve's Counter-Strike 2 rules leave rapid trigger alone and block input automation such as Razer's Snap Tap, which settles two opposing movement keys for the player. In its Side-stepping Skill announcement of 19 August 2024, Valve wrote that "players suspected of automating multiple player actions from a single game input may be kicked from their match" on Valve official servers, and told owners of keyboards with a feature such as Snap Tap Mode to disable it before joining.
Corsair's own guide states that FlashTap, the K70 PRO TKL's opposing-key (SOCD) feature, is banned in CS2 and ships disabled by default, and that "Rapid Trigger keyboards are fine at the time of writing". Dexerto reported the same split on 20 August 2024: a Razer Huntsman V3 Pro with Snap Tap on was kicked for input automation, while a Wooting 60HE with rapid trigger was not. On 9 September 2024, Valve added the same counter-strafe detection as an option for non-Valve servers.
The features to switch off before a CS2 match are FlashTap (Corsair), Rapid Tap (SteelSeries), Speed Tap (ASUS ROG), Snap Tap (Razer) and SOCD mode on the AULA WIN60 HE. The mouse half of a CS2 setup is covered in Is a lighter gaming mouse better?.

Verdict
Rapid trigger is worth it for Counter-Strike 2, Valorant and rhythm games, and worth skipping for MOBA, MMO and typing-first buyers. The Corsair K70 PRO TKL adds it for £36.90 over the standard Corsair K70 CORE TKL, and it plays on Valve's CS2 servers without a kick as long as FlashTap and similar opposing-key features stay off. The rest of the field is ranked in Best gaming keyboard UK 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Is rapid trigger worth it for CS2?
Yes. Rapid trigger is worth it for Counter-Strike 2 because accurate shots depend on stopping quickly, and rapid trigger releases a movement key after as little as 0.1 mm of lift instead of about 2 mm. Valve's 2024 rule on input automation does not cover it. The Corsair K70 PRO TKL adds rapid trigger for £36.90 more than the Corsair K70 CORE TKL on Amazon UK in October 2026.
Is rapid trigger banned in CS2?
No. Valve's Counter-Strike 2 rule of 19 August 2024 targets input automation such as Snap Tap, not rapid trigger. Snap Tap settles two opposing movement keys for the player, and players suspected of using it on Valve official servers may be kicked from the match. Corsair states that FlashTap, the Corsair K70 PRO TKL's opposing-key feature, is banned in CS2.
What is the difference between rapid trigger and Snap Tap?
Rapid trigger changes when a single key presses and releases, based on how far it moves. Snap Tap, Razer's name for SOCD handling, decides which of two opposing keys such as A and D wins when both are held. Valve treats the second as input automation in Counter-Strike 2. Corsair calls its version FlashTap, SteelSeries Rapid Tap and ASUS ROG Speed Tap.
Is rapid trigger good for typing?
Rapid trigger does nothing for typing, and very light actuation settings add typos. Corsair recommends 0.3 mm to 3.6 mm on the Corsair K70 PRO TKL and warns that settings outside that range may affect consistency. Buyers who type more than they play should set a deeper actuation point for work, or choose a standard board such as the Corsair K70 CORE TKL at £89.99.
What is the cheapest rapid trigger keyboard worth buying?
The AULA WIN60 HE is the cheapest rapid trigger keyboard worth buying in the UK, at £39.99 on Amazon UK at the time of writing (October 2026). AULA rates its rapid trigger sensitivity at 0.02 mm, and the AULA WIN60 HE polls at 8,000 Hz with hot-swappable switch sockets. It is a wired 60% board in a US ANSI layout, with no arrow keys or function row.
Does rapid trigger need 8,000 Hz polling?
No. Rapid trigger and polling rate are separate features: rapid trigger changes when a key registers, and polling sets how often the keyboard reports to the PC. The Logitech G PRO X TKL RAPID reports at 1,000 Hz, every 1 ms, and the Corsair K70 PRO TKL at 8,000 Hz, every 0.125 ms. Rapid trigger works on both keyboards.
