Tablets guide
How to choose tablets
Tablets combine a touch display, a mobile chipset, and a portable form factor. The Apple iPad Pro, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S, and the Microsoft Surface Pro define the premium category. Buyers compare on chipset, display, accessory support, and software ecosystem.
Chipset
The Apple M4 powers the iPad Pro and matches some MacBook performance levels. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy powers the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10. Tablet chipsets handle 4K video editing, 3D rendering at moderate scenes, and on-device AI workloads.
Display
Premium tablets ship with OLED or LED-backlit panels at 11 inches to 13 inches. Refresh rates of 120 Hz are standard on the iPad Pro and the Galaxy Tab S10. Anti-reflective coatings improve outdoor visibility.
Stylus and keyboard accessories
The Apple Pencil Pro, the Samsung S Pen, and the Microsoft Surface Pen pair with their host tablets for handwriting and drawing. Keyboard cases from Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft turn tablets into laptop-class typing devices for ~£300 to £400.
Storage and connectivity
Tablet storage ranges from 128 GB on entry models to 2 TB on the iPad Pro 1TB. Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 is standard on premium tablets. Optional 5G cellular adds £130 to £180 on Apple and Samsung models.
